election

What I told my kids this morning, Monday, November 2, 2020:

1. Tomorrow is an important day, the last day grownups can vote in this year's election.

2. Many grownups (and kids) have been waiting for tomorrow for a very long time. Some people have been waiting for 4 years, some people for even longer!

3. Kids get a lot of practice waiting, like when you have to wait your turn or when you have to wait for me or Daddy to finish something.

4. But no matter how much practice you get, waiting can still feel hard, even for grownups! And since so many people are waiting for tomorrow, lots of them will be distracted today, tomorrow and maybe all week.

5. If grownups (me, Daddy, your teachers) are a little more frustrated or angry or even tired, if it seems like we sometimes are distracted this week, it's not your fault. If we're looking at our phones more than usual, it's not because we aren't interested in what you're doing. It's because we're all a little nervous that the person we voted for won't win.

6. Sometimes when grownups are waiting, it means kids have to wait longer too. But if you're mad about waiting or frustrated or annoyed, tell me, and we can figure out how to wait together.

7. No matter what happens, I love you.
